Contemporary Music

The word “contemporary” means belonging to or occurring in the present times. Hence the contemporary music at the Academy ranges from the Blues, Jazz, RnB, Soul, Funk, Reggae to Rock, Pop, Metal, Hip-hop, EDM, world music and everything in-between. Today’s music is no longer bound by rigid rules or classical music, and any song can draw influences from any genre of music. What students wish to learn completely depends on the type of music they enjoy listening to, yet all of contemporary music has its roots in the music developed within the 20th century.

Due to this diverse and ever changing nature of contemporary music, pedagogy of teaching this music requires creative thinking and often development on bespoke teaching material on part of the teacher. Since the development of contemporary music is rather recent, the pedagogy of teaching contemporary music is still in early stages of evolution.
